About Brazilians culture and language.

Today we had the first game in New Maracanã Brazil vs England, joining the Brazilian-British interaction I would like to contribute with the post I read on Johnsons Blog at The Economist regarding Brazilians

It's a very nice post and translates the Brazilian culture.

Brazilians are always concerned about giving a nice impression and letting their guests and friends comfortable. We're also concerned about what our friends, family and co-workers feelings and expectations.

So when a Brazilian wants to say “No” he will probably say “maybe later” or “we might check that”. If you ask if you’re fat a Brazilian, he won’t say yes, he will probably say that maybe you should go to this new gym if you’re feeling fat or try this new diet. If your product is expensive and he have another offer, he will probably say. “I’ll call you later.”

If you hear something like that in a negotiation be assertive and try to get the full information, he expects to receive the same feedback and atention “Let’s finish it” or “What can we do to close this deal right now? It will be much better if we settle this now take care of smaller details after.”

and yes, even if you have the worst portuguese possible, we will love if you try or learn something.
